Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateubriand - MASP

O Museu de Arte de São Paulo foi criado em 1947 pelo empresário Assis Chateaubriand (1892-1968). De caráter privado e sem fins lucrativos, o museu se tornou a primeira instituição moderna no Brasil. Para sua direção, Chateaubriand convidou o crítico e italiano Pietro Maria Bardi (1900-1999) e, para pensar a arquitetura e projeto expográfico, ficou a cargo de Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992).

Apenas em 1968 o museu foi transferido para a atual e conhecida sede na avenida Paulista.  Com base no uso do vidro e do concreto, Lina Bo Bardi cria a área conhecida como “vão livre”(espaço sob o edifício) visando um espaço destinado ao uso da população.

Atualmente a coleção do MASP reúne mais de 10 mil obras das mais variadas tipologias e suportes. Na exposição de longa duração “Acervo em formação”, a expografia de Lina Bo Bardi desenvolve o “cavaletes de cristal” visando retirar a obra da parede e dando ao visitante a possibilidade de visualizar os quadros por todos os lados.

Os cavaletes foram utilizados na abertura da atual sede em 1968 e removidos em 1996, voltando a ser utilizados na atualidade. Além disso, contando com obras de renomados artistas nacionais e internacionais que integram a coleção do MASP.  

“O gesto de retirar as pinturas da parede e colocá-las nos cavaletes aponta para a dessacralização das obras, tornando-as mais familiares ao público. Ainda, por outro lado, as legendas informativas colocadas no verso das obras possibilita um primeiro encontro com elas livre de contextualizações da história da arte. Nesse sentido, a experiência do museu torna-se mais humanizada, plural e democrática.” (MASP, 2015)

As obras estão posicionadas em ordem cronológica que não considerada a cronologia da história da arte, escolas ou movimentos, deixando o público livre para seguir seu percurso próprio. Acervo em transformação é uma exposição aberta pois continua com mudanças e ajustes.

Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateubriand - MASP

The Museum of Art of São Paulo was created in 1947 by the businessman Assis Chateaubriand (1892-1968). Private and non-profit making, the museum became the first modern institution in Brazil. For his direction, Chateaubriand invited the critic and Italian Pietro Maria Bardi (1900-1999) and, in order to think about architecture and exhibition project, was in charge of Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992).

Only in 1968 the museum was transferred to the current and well-known headquarters on Avenida Paulista. Based on the use of glass and concrete, Lina Bo Bardi creates the area known as "free space" (space under the building) for a space intended for the use of the population.

Currently the MASP collection gathers more than 10 thousand works of the most varied typologies and supports. In the long exhibition "Collection in formation", the exhibition of Lina Bo Bardi develops the "crystal easels" aiming to remove the work from the wall and giving the visitor the possibility of viewing the paintings on all sides.

The trestles were used in the opening of the current headquarters in 1968 and removed in 1996, returning to be used today. In addition, with works by renowned national and international artists that are part of the MASP collection.

"The gesture of removing the paintings from the wall and placing them on the easels points to the de-sacralization of the works, making them more familiar to the public. Still, on the other hand, the informational legends placed on the back of the works enable a first encounter with them free of contextualizations of the history of art. In this sense, the museum's experience becomes more humanized, plural and democratic. "(MASP, 2015)

The works are positioned in chronological order that is not considered the chronology of art history, schools or movements, leaving the public free to follow its own course. Acervo in transformation is an open exhibition because it continues with changes and adjustments.
